Flexibility

Ethics in Psychological Assessments

Reflection

Revisiting my Ethics in Psychological Assessments Paper has strengthened my understanding of flexibility as an essential quality of an effective counselor. Through my development as a counselor-in-training, I have learned that ethical assessment requires more than following standardized procedures. It requires recognizing each client's unique cultural background, developmental level, personal experiences, and individual needs. I have grown in my ability to consider different perspectives, remain open to feedback, and recognize when adjustments are necessary to provide ethical and culturally responsive care.

The purposeful revisions I would make to this artifact include strengthening my discussion of cultural humility, informed consent, and the importance of selecting assessments that are appropriate for each client. I recognize that flexibility does not mean compromising ethical standards; rather, it means adapting my approach while maintaining professional boundaries and evidence-based practices. My experiences as an educator and counselor-in-training have taught me that individuals do not all learn, communicate, or respond in the same way. This understanding has encouraged me to become more intentional about meeting people where they are instead of expecting them to fit a predetermined approach.

Moving forward, I want to continue developing my ability to respond thoughtfully to supervision, incorporate constructive feedback, and evaluate my own biases when making clinical decisions. I will continue strengthening my cultural competence and assessment knowledge to ensure that my future counseling practice reflects respect, fairness, and individualized care. Flexibility reminds me that becoming an effective counselor is an ongoing process of learning, reflection, and growth.
